A young woman grows up to be a stone-cold assassin after witnessing her parents' murdera child in Bogota. She works for her unclea hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target - the mobster responsible for her parents' death.
Not to be sexist, but a female performing this storyline was possibly one of the most gripping aspects. A male protagonist would suit the role, but the movie would take a whole different route in terms of violence and others features hence possibly making this movie a rated R movieopposed to an initial PG-13 one. I was impressed with the stunt choreography which was typical yet revolutionized with slight alterations to particular moves. Casting would have been excellent except some crucial characters, for example, the antagonist who Cataleya is after, Don Luis. Overall, a very action packed flick, but yes, some faltering with the grabbing of attention like the desperation to keep the audience interested during a "romantic" dinner between Cataleya and her lover, who was not very impressive in the acting department. In general, you should not regret giving this movie a watch, but to watch it a second time after knowing the ins and outs of how Cataleya's plan is, is not a likely affair.
I enjoyed this movie for about 2/3rds of the way and then it wasif they had run out of ideas and money and just wanted to end itsoonpossible. It went from being original to being a Rambo, Commando, Jackie Chan clone. Fight scenes that go on and on and on and on and on and machine guns that only kill the bad guys and bullets flying everywhere that never seem to come close to hurting the star. Booooorinnng! This has elements of "Salt" in it but in the end never comes close to beinggood. What is it with movie makers these days, they can't seem to sustain even a very short movie. I compare this movie to Legion which started out strong and went downhill rapidly after the first hour, and became actually a completely lousy stinky movie which should never have been made nor should it be watched. Before this movie started there was a preview of a remake of "Straw Dogs". I guess that's what is happening more and more these days. Everyone is into remakes with no original ideas to be found. Columbiana is just that, a remake of many other films which are much much better.
While most action films fall apart because they succumb to stupidity, Colombiana suffers most because it tries to be too smart.

It has been heavily censored from its original version. <br/><br/>The European theatrical version was longer, leaving some intensive scenes. The Unrated version is approximately four minutes longer than the international version and features some extended action and story sequences.
